Our Backstory

Let's roll for initiative...

Narrative Damage is a show that loves two things - storytelling and playing games. So we decided to combine the two!

As authors, we are drawn to compelling stories and Marco has long held that one of the most underrated mediums for storytelling is the world of TTRPGs. There is no story you can't tell with the variety of systems now available, from saving the world from evil necromancers, to a close examination of psychological collapse in the face of Lovecraftian horrors, to exploring the outer reaches of space - all of it is possible when you sit round the table with friends and roll some dice!

Our channel looks to bring some of these great stories to you across a range of games - from ones we know well like Call of Cthulhu or Delta Green, to a whole bunch of new systems that we are looking forward to trying out (let's be honest, we all want the new shiny thing!) And we thought who better to tell these stories than already proven storytellers: published authors! We're fortunate enough to know a lot of amazing authors who also share our love of these games and sit down at the table with us.

As well as our actual plays, we also look to learn from the best in our interviews with creators from the TTRPG field, from game designers and writers to brilliant actual play folk. Each interview is a deep dive into their love of this world and what they bring to it.

So, as we like to say, put down those pens, pick up the dice, and jump into the stories with us!

About the Host

Marco Rinaldi Profile Photo
Marco Rinaldi

Author/Game Master

I'm a Scottish-Italian author based in Edinburgh who writes historical fiction and thrillers. I am the winner of Bloody Scotland's 2025 Pitch Perfect competition after also being a finalist in the 2023 competition.

I am also the co-host of a few popular podcasts! Alongside Narrative Damage, I host Page One - The Writer’s Podcast, where I interview writers of all kinds about their process, and Rigore! The Italian Football Podcast, where I yammer on about Italian football with my cousin for 20 minutes or so each week.

Aside from writing, my main passion is TTRPGs, having been sucked back into them after a hiatus of about 20 years. There is nothing I love more than sitting round a table with friends, rolling some dice, and seeing what story we can all tell. My GM goals are always simple: Make sure everyone has fun and help them tell a great story.

Narrative Damage

An actual play TTRPG podcast where your favourite authors swap their pens for dice and gather together to tell tales. Join them as they explore games including Call of Cthulhu, Delta Green, Blades in the Dark and many more!

Between scenarios, we sit down with TTRPG legends for deep-dive interviews.

Craft worlds. Roll dice. Tell stories.
